πŸŽ“ Graduation Celebration – Honouring Our PhD Colleagues in Petroleum and Geo-Energy Engineering πŸŽ“

We are proud to celebrate a special milestone as two of our colleagues formally attended their PhD graduation ceremony at Heriot-Watt University:

πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ“ Dr. Gang Wang
πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ“ Dr. Alan Beteta

Although both completed their PhDs earlier, they recently joined the university’s summer graduation ceremony to mark the occasion in person.

During their doctoral studies, Dr. Wang and Dr. Beteta were part of the Energi Simulation Centre for Geoscience and Engineering, where they made important contributions to a broad range of research areas β€” including flow assurance and scale prediction, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) with an emphasis on polymer flooding, and emerging technologies such as carbon capture and storage (CCS) and underground hydrogen storage (UHS).

They were supervised by Dr Gillian Pickup and Professor Ken Sorbie, respectively, and co-supervised by Professor Eric Mackay, who also took part in the ceremony as a member of the academic procession and stage party β€” a moment that reflected his close mentorship and longstanding leadership in petroleum engineering research.

The photographs below capture this proud and well-deserved moment of recognition. On behalf of colleagues and friends, we offer our warmest congratulations to Gang and Alan and wish them all the best in their future.
